Should cell
phone numbers be apart of the "do not call list"?
Usually
around January or June, people who have email accounts will
start seeing a lot of emails pertaining to getting cell phone numbers
registered with the "do not call list" that specifies that
telemarketers cannot use that specific number to call about
promotions, sales, or anything of the like. These emails are a
false representation of a national registry that has been
created by the main cellular service providers such as Alltel,
AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Nextel. This registry
was formed due to the fact that there are so many people
getting rid of their land line phones and just using their
cellular phones.
This registry is a database of
all the cell phone
numbers and their users that can be accessed for directory
assistance customers who are in the need of finding someone's
phone number when they do not have a land line phone but only
use their cell phone for communication purposes. The main point
that has been constrewed is the fact that this registry is on a
voluntary basis only and cellular phone numbers are not just
put on it. The cellular customer has to actually request their
number put into the registry.
If you don't want your cell phone numbers in the
registry, then that is your right and you don't have to have it
listed. These emails state that you have until a certain date
to register your cell phone number with the "do not call list"
or else telemarketers will be calling your cell phone and
racking up your cell phone bill because you will have to pay
for these calls. This is false information that has been
stuck into these emails and this information should just be
disregarded and deleted. You can call your cellular service
provider to find out this information for
yourself.´

When you signed up for the
service of your cellular phone, there is a privacy act that
states that the cellular service cannot give out your
information to anyone without your consent which keeps your
information private unless you state otherwise so there are no
worries when it comes to the emails that usually go around
every year. It's really just one more way for some individuals
to start a major hype with cell phone numbers and
get the public scurrying around worried about their information
getting out to the telemarketing companies that they do not
want calling on their cell phones.
